Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is situated in Algoa Bay which is a large eastward-facing half heart bay. The city was established in the western sector of the Bay because of the protection offered by  Cape Recife from the dominant south westerly swell.

Samrec is situated in the Cape Recife Nature Reserve, a few metres further along the road from Pine Lodge Resort.

Travel along Marine Drive, take the Cape Recife/PIne Lodge turn-off, carry straight on to the boom gate, which will be opened for you.  

Tell the boom operator/security guard that you wish to visit Samrec.  He may give you a slip of paper, but you do not have to pay to come as far as Samrec.  A permit to drive further in the Reserve can be bought at Pine Lodge reception office. 

SAMREC is a few hundred meters past the boom, on your right.
