THE STAFF
Eddy Molekoa has been appoonted as our Environmental Education Manager and has some exciting Environmental lessons planned.
Most work at the centre is carried out by
volunteers who have received specialised training. We have 19 core volunteers who are trained and active.
We have established links with similar Centres
World Wide, such as SANCOB (National), IBRRC (International Bird Rehabilitation Rescue Centre - San Francisco), The Mystic Aquarium - USA Conneticut and the National Aviary USA - Philadelphia and have also established an exchange programme for interns.
JARED HARDING - SAMREC Animal Manager
Jared Harding has been appointed as our resident Animal Manager. He began as a volunteer at Bayworld in Port Elizabeth in 1999 working in the penguin rehab sector and moving onto working with the resident dolphins and seals. He went to the USA in 2004 which led to him being accepted as an intern at International Bird Rescue Centre in California being the first South African to complete the training at this facility (learning rehab and veterinarian protocols). In 2005 he was appointed as the Assistant Bird Keeper at Birds of Eden in Plettenberg Bay where he worked with 160 different parrots and birds. In 2006 he moved back to PE and was appointed as the Operational Animal Supervisor at Animal Welfare. In 2007 he accepted the position of Penguin Curator at Penguins Eastern Cape in Cape St. Francis and was happy to be doing what he really loves again - Penguin rehab! In 2008 he was given the opportunity to work on Marion Island as a Marine and Coastal Management field assistant. There he censured all the penguins and marine birds being exposed to different species such as the Macaroni, Rockhopper and the Gentoo.
WHAT
CAN YOU DO?
We need your help. As a non-profit
organisation we rely totally on public participation.
We need volunteers to help in all aspects of
running the Centre, from administration to feeding and cleaning the
patients.
To qaulify you need to be over the age of 16 years old, have your own transport, a willingness to learn, able to dedicate your time and you should have a passion for environmental concerns.
We have plans for a Junior Club in process.
We need to purchase medical supplies and food
for the animals.
Please consider becoming a member of SAMREC.
Just fill in the form below and send it to us.
Donations will be most
welcome
